GABIONS

Flexible, permeable, durable, and economical. Gabions are rectangular wire cages made from flexible, heavily galvanized double twisted wiremesh and filled with boulders, gabions are used as multipurpose solutions in different environments that may require protection.

Applications

  • Flood and Landslide control
  • Slope stabilizationand reinforcement
  • Slope protection
  • Erosion Control
  • Landscaping
  • Protective and Aesthetic Fencing

Advantages

  • Unlike conventional structures, gabions can deform or bend without losing its structural efficiency
  • The gabion’s combined drainage and retention functions make them ideal structures for slope stabilization
  • Gabions are heavy, monolithic units able to withstand earth thrust, with its efficiency increasing with age as silt and soil collect in the voids allowing vegetation to establish itself on it
  • Requires little maintenance, only requires the surface to be reasonably plane therefore minimizes foundation preparation, no drainage provision required as they are naturally permeable, and simple structure does not require skilled labor.
  • Environmentally sensitive solution to slope stabilization. The natural boulders in gabion system make it naturally porous that allow interaction between land and the water table and induce deposition of soil in the smaller voids between the boulder fill during drainage that again promote vegetation growth.

MATTRESSES

Where scouring is heaviest, Mattresses are used when height and bulk are not needed, and are thinner versions of the gabion but with a wider area of coverage.

Applications

  • Riverbank linings and beds where scouring is heaviest

Advantages

  • Unlike conventional structures, mattresses can deform or bend without losing its structuralintegrity
  • The stone fill allows the water to seep through the structure while retaining the soil, therefore no additional drainage is required to relieve the hydrostatic pressures.
  • Mattresses are heavy, monolithic units able to withstand earth thrust, with its efficiency increasing with age as silt and soil collect in the voids allowing vegetation to establish itself on it
  • Requires little maintenance, only requires the surface to be reasonably plane therefore minimizes foundation preparation, no drainage provision required as they are naturally permeable, and simple structure does not require skilled labor.
  • Environmental friendly product. The voids in the boulders fill will be gradually filled with silt that will promote vegetation growth.
